Eye bugs woes

Argh…Conceal or eliminate? The choices for the dark eye bugs problem. But what are the causes for these irritating vanity woes. There’s an article in Ettusais’ website I want to share:

Heredity - If you’ve got dark eye circles, it’s a good chance others in your family have them too. Skin under the eyes is very thin, so when blood passes through the large veins it can appear bluish. If your skin is more transparent (also an inherited trait), your circles can appear even darker.

Sun exposure – This can cause high melanin levels. People get tans because high levels of sun exposure increases melanin levels and draws melanin to the surface of the skin. This applies to the undereye area as well.

Allergies, asthma and eczema – These can cause your eyes to itch and make you rub or scratch your eyes. This can darken your skin.

Medication – Medication that causes blood vessels to dilate can cause circles under the eyes to darken. Because the skin there is so thin, any increased blood flow appears as a bluish tint.

Nutrition – An unbalanced diet can contribute to the discoloration of the undereye area.

Fatigue / lack of sleep – This leads to paleness of the skin, which allows the blood under delicate skin to become more visible, and appear bluer or darker.

Pregnancy / menstruation – The skin can appear more pale under these conditions, again allowing blood under the skin to be more visible.

Age – If you’re prone to dark eye circles, they’re likely to become more noticeable with age. Excess fold of skin under the eyes will also make your dark circles more pronounced.
